August 2016

This month we have been focusing on the garden area and have had all the trees trimmed and new plants purchased.

Plans are well underway for our Piggy Park allotment. We have had a meeting with Julie from Prospects who is supporting us to plan and sort out where we want to plant things. we have decided on what we want to grow and have chosen lots of healthy vegetables and salads. We are also going to have a forest garden area where we will grow fruit bushes and trees. Lets hope we get some good weather to help us get started off. We are going to visit Off Shoots in Burnley, to see what they do and get some good ideas for our own plot.

We have carried out an exercise with service users to make sure we recruit the right staff, this was an  activity in the weekly user meeting. We asked service users what they liked about people and also what they didn’t like. Everyone was shown some photos of faces and then asked to explain why they liked the face or not. This helped inform the interview questions and 2 people volunteered to come into the interview and help us select the right staff-Lets hope we have done!

We have recently changed our registration with the CQC from Accommodation for persons requiring nursing or personal care to Treatment of disorder, disease and injury this means we can now provide Psychologically informed, nurse led, therapeutic interventions for the people we support.

We have signed up to run a McMillan coffee morning on the 29th September and are hoping lots of people will come and support us to raise money for this charity.

We are continuing to work with Blackburn college to ensure all our staff are trained to do their job safely and competently.
